Payment is in advance, either by the term or by the month.  Payment by the term, which includes a discount, is due the first lesson of the term. Payment by the month consists of 5 equal payments per term, to be paid by the first lesson of each month. 2016-2017 Tuition Rates:

 40 minute lessons:      $564/term or $120/month

  50 minute lessons:      $698/term or $147/month

     1 hour lessons:            $817/term or $173/month

 Fees:

$30.00 book deposit in September and February $30.00 registration fee once a year

Your tuition reserves a time slot for you in the studio schedule. It pays not only for actual music instruction time, but time for lesson preparation, curriculum development, selecting music, event planning, studio communication and business recordkeeping. It pays for office supplies, business insurance, studio rental, maintenance of studio equipment including instruments and other overhead costs.  If the student misses a lesson, these expenses are still incurred.Contact

A book deposit of $30.00 will be charged in September, and again in February. Records will be kept of all music purchases.  Any money not used will be refunded at the end of the year.  When music purchased exceeds the amount of the book deposit, the teacher will bill you for the additional amount. Books needed for lessons will be purchased by the teacher.

The registration fee (formerly called materials fee) of $30 is paid when you start regular lessons and once a year thereafter. It is used for lending library materials, sight reading resources, costs of printing/copying online resources including music from subscription services and public domain, theory worksheets, games, and other shared use studio materials.

Information on summer schedule and payment is distributed in the spring.  Contact Alice at alicejpeterson@yahoo.com for summer info.

Missed Lessons: A regular student has a lesson once a week, every week that the studio is open. Your scheduled time is reserved for you each week whether you are there or not.  There are no refunds for missed lessons. Life does not always cooperate with schedules, however, so the final week of the school year is “Catch-Up” week, and you may schedule up to two lessons if you have missed some during the year. These may be either private or group lessons. Lessons may occasionally be rescheduled within the week of the missed lesson at the teacher’s discretion.  Lessons missed as a result of the teacher’s absence will be rescheduled. *In the case of planned absences of more than two consecutive weeks, please talk with the teacher at least a month in advance.*

Discontinuing Lessons: Every student stops taking lessons at some point.  Please make this decision thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can end with a positive sense of closure. A minimum of one month’s notice is requested.

Practice Guidelines: To progress, practice should be regular and focused. Finding a regular time is the ideal, and practicing as many days as possible. For some, the same time each day works well.  For others, a careful look at the week will reveal pockets of time for practice on a regular basis. As activities change during the year, take a fresh look at the schedule to identify practice time. Parental involvement in practice is essential for the youngest students; parental oversight of elementary age children is necessary until the student becomes self-directed in practice.

Experimentation at the piano is encouraged, in fact often the weekly assignments include creative activities, but the student should complete the teacher’s assignments before moving to his/her wonderfully creative explorations.

Instrument: Students need a full size, weighted key instrument in order to progress.

Events: The studio provides opportunities to share music with others through Piano Celebrations twice a year, as well as additional events including playing at retirement homes and joint activities with other studios. Events outside the studio may require an additional fee.

Thank you for your commitment to piano lessons. With the complexity of modern family life, there are many things demanding attention. I want to work with you to ensure that you child feels the joy and success of making music. Please contact me if you want to discuss any aspect of piano lessons.

`          JOY IN MUSIC PIANO STUDIO

POLICIES FOR ADULTS        Fall 2017-Spring 2018

Piano Lessons as an adult are totally different than childhood piano lessons. For one thing, your parent isn’t making you do it! You have your own motivation, and your own goals. The teacher’s job is to help you clarify those goals and provide resources and encouragement for you to move toward them.

Whether you’ve always wanted to play but did not have the opportunity, or you took lessons as a child and have been away from it, you are now at a place to move ahead at the piano with the help of a teacher. I am happy that you have chosen my studio, and want to help you enjoy making music at the piano.

I have established the following policies in order to ensure that you receive the most effective and helpful teaching possible.  More than half of the studio consists of adult students, making consistency necessary. In some cases, adult students have exceptional situations (Florida in the winter, travel for business). Early communication will facilitate a plan that is fair to student and teacher.

Fulltime Student Tuition and Fees:(See below for part time students.) Payment of tuition guarantees that I will be present to teach 34 weeks. Our schedule is organized in two terms, Sept-Jan and Feb-June (with summer information distributed in the spring).Payment is in advance, either by the term or by the month. Hard copy lesson books and music collections are paid for separately, and can be ordered by the teacher with reimbursement, or ordered by the student. Approximate cost for beginning books may be $25-$30.

Missed Lessons: A fulltime student has a lesson every week that the studio is open. Your scheduled time is reserved for you each week whether you are there or not. There are no refunds for missed lessons. Life does not always cooperate with schedules, however, so the final week of the schedule in June is “Catch-Up” week, and you may schedule up to two lessons if you have missed some during the year. Lessons may sometimes be rescheduled within the week of the missed lesson at the teacher’s discretion. Lessons missed as a result of the teacher’s absence will be rescheduled. *In the case of planned absences of more than two consecutive weeks, please talk with the teacher at least a month in advance.*

60 min lessons: $535/term or $112/month ($25 off by term)

A part time student will be scheduled for 17-18 lessons from Sept-June. Payment by term is due at the first lesson in September and the first lesson in February. Part time students will be scheduled opposite each other, meaning a lesson approximately every other week. Occasionally there may be a lesson two weeks in a row, or a gap of 3 weeks or longer, for example at holidays

.Some adults can not commit to a regular schedule or wish for short term or occasional lessons to accomplish a particular purpose. This can occasionally be arranged ($45 per forty minute lesson/$60 per hour lesson) when there is space in the studio schedule.

I congratulation you on your decision to play the piano!
